7th Conference: Health Crisis and Disaster Management in the Gaza Strip

The Faculty of Medicine at the Islamic University in Gaza held its seventh conference titled Health Crisis and Disaster Management in Gaza Strip on the 10^th and 11^th of November 2017 at the main conference hall at the Islamic University of Gaza. A number of governmental institutions, non-governmental organizations, international organizations, and international experts who are working in the field of emergencies and crisis attended the conference.

The opening session of the conference was held in the presence of Dr. Jawad Awwad, the Minister of Health, Dr. Sabri Sedam, the Minister of the Palestinian Education and Higher Education, Dr. Basem Naim, Chairman of the Preparatory Committee and Manager of Hayat Center, Dr. Nasreldin Al Mezzini, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the Islamic university, Prof. Dr. Nasser Farahat; President of the Islamic University, Dr. Fadel Naim, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the conference, and Dr. Mahmoud Daher, the Head of the World Health Organization office in Gaza.

A number of representatives of the Legislative Council, deputy ministers of different Palestinian ministries, doctors and health workers, representatives of medical and health institutions in the Gaza strip, academics, and medical students attended the opening session.

Conference Objectives:

• Discussing the reality of emergencies and crisis management in the Gaza Strip

• Discussing the challenges facing the process of emergency and crisis management.

• Discussing lessons learned from local and international experiences in emergencies and crisis management

• Concluding recommendations that support the development of emergencies and crisis management in the Gaza Strip

• Building the capacity of implementing partners in managing crises and health disasters in the Gaza Strip

• Establishing a forum for decision-makers in the field of health crises and disasters management

• Networking between national, regional and international institutions.
