The Faculty of Medicine at the Islamic University in Gaza held its second conference, titled The First conference on Cardiovascular diseases, in collaboration with the European Gaza Hospital and the Ministry of Health, on the 9th and 10th of October 2009 at the main conference hall at the Islamic University of Gaza.
Dr. Basem Naim, The Minister of Health, Eng. Jamal Al Khodari, Chairman of the Board of trustees at the Islamic University, Dr. Kamaleen Sha’at, President of the Islamic University, and Dr. Abdulatif Al Haj, director of European Gaza Hospital and the conference president, participated in the opening ceremony of the conference. The opening ceremony was also attended by the organizing and scientific committees of the conference, a number of researchers in the cardiovascular field, and a group of high-ranked personnel.
The two-day conference program included several lectures and presentations of scientific papers, in addition to a pre-recorded speech by Sir Terence English, a Cardiac surgeon from the UK, who was the most famous English cardiac surgeon and one of the first surgeons who performed heart transplantation operations in the world, and an author of many scientific books in this field.
