Specialist Training Program in Family Medicine
Program Objectives:

Gain an overview of the principles and practice of Family Medicine Know about the concepts of “Patient-Centered care”.

Gain knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary to become sensitive communicators, educators and effective team members in the Family Practice.

Complement, develop and enhance the knowledge and skills already acquired by students.
-
Introduce the attitudes and skills necessary to be effective lifelong learners.

Acquire the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide preventive, promotive, and curative health care for the common and emergency problems in the community.

Know the differentiating characteristics of Family Medicine and its roles in different health care settings.

Acquire the basic skill in conducting patient-centred consultation.

Able to involve patients in informed decision making.

Acquire the basic principles of communication skills in dealing with patients, their families and health care team members.

Conduct consultation independently and effectively.

Know how to use the health resources effectively.

Provide cost-effective, competent and efficient care based on the current evidence and guidelines.

Conduct clinical audits.

Identify issues related to global and travel health.

Understand the concept of information mastery and evidence-based medicine.
Awarding the Certificate:
-
Students are strongly recommended to complete the assessments related and attain at least 65% marks.

The final examination is mandatory for all students.

The final examination consists of a paper-based format of Higher Order Thinking Assessments (Single Best Option, OSCE, audit and continues assessment).
-
The examiners are consultants and university examiner(s) are appointed by the Faculty of Medicine.
