Graduate Professional Diploma in Emergency Medicine

Overview

The Mission of the Program:

To train medical doctors and other health workers who are interested in obtaining further knowledge in the field of Emergency Medicine. Candidates will then have the ability to deal with all emergencies towards the quick, thorough, and perfect treatment of patients.

Description of the program:

The Diploma in emergency medicine is a professional program in the field of emergency medicine, which consists of three semesters that teach different aspects of emergency medicine ending with a final (comprehensive) exam and practical training program.

Objectives of the program:

To understand the organization of Emergency medical services.
To establish and maintain clinical knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to quickly assess and manage emergencies.
To create a common language among professionals in emergency and crisis management.
Learn to establish good patient-doctor relationships in acute care settings.
To develop the ability to design national protocols for dealing with disasters, crises, and emergencies.
Handling medico-legal issues and maintaining professional ethical standards.

Enrolment requirements:

A candidate shall have

Undergraduate certificate in medical or health sciences, or equivalent.
Palestinian Medical Practice Licensure.
Passing the selection examination.
Candidates will normally be approved only after an interview by the Program consultant committee.

Target groups:

Doctors who work in different emergency departments in Gaza hospitals.
Doctors who are registered Palestinian board different training programs.
Health workers who work in different emergency settings in Gaza hospitals (Emergency nurses, Paramedics….etc).

Expected outcomes:

A well-trained and prepared medical staff who is ready to deal with disasters and crises.
Able to work in the difficult and challenging environment of the Emergency Department and is able to re-prioritize and respond to new and urgent situations.
Work effectively as a member or a leader of a multi-disciplinary team and practice good communication skills
Be committed to the highest standards of care and behave ethically and professionally as expected from emergency physicians and all health care professionals
Continuously improve his practice by utilizing the best available research evidence and being committed to lifelong learning
Technical and administrative reference points and practical to manage disasters and crises.
Clear policies, strategies, and protocols to deal with disasters and crises, and the ability to devise and improvise such strategies.
Research and studies related to emergency medicine and crisis management in order to identify shortcomings and to propose solutions.

Graduates’ areas of work:

Due to the presence of a severe lack of specialization in emergency medicine the graduates will have excellent opportunities job as follows:

The emergency department in hospitals and other health centers.
NGOs health care sector.
Private clinics.

Having this diploma is also a significant addition to doctors wishing to join postgraduate specialization in the field.

By the end of 2021, this Post-Graduate Diploma program has been completed by 40 students.

Program structure:

Program duration:

The Program is designed to be completed in 15-18 months, taking into account the flexibility which takes the needs of the participants with full-time job responsibilities. This flexibility enables classes to be scheduled after official working hours and during the week.
