Professional Diploma of Medicine in Vascular Surgery

Program Duration and study load:

  • This is a one-and-a-half-year program with clinical and applied basic science courses.
  • A total of 37 Credit Units must be accumulated for successful completion of the Graduate Professional Diploma of Medicine in Vascular Surgery.
  • 238 class meeting hours and 264 clinical hours.
  • In addition to the academic Period, the field training will take place within six months after the completion of the courses successfully.
  • The Professional Diploma of Medicine program in Vascular Surgery extends over a period of 3 semesters. The duration of a semester is 14 weeks; 12 weeks for teaching, learning, and field training, and two weeks for examinations. There is a two-week holiday between the semesters.
  • Attendance requirements for all activities are above 80%.
  • A logbook is designated for each student as part of the progressive assessment. The logbook is used to monitor the field training of the trainees.
  • The trainees are encouraged towards self-directed learning; formal lectures are kept to a minimum. Interactive discussions through tutorials, journal clubs, clinical seminars, demonstrations, Initial and final tests will be conducted to reinforce the understanding of the material given through formal lectures.
  • The trainees are expected to learn as they work in outpatients and special clinics (opportunistic learning) under supervision.
  • The trainees also actively participate in all academic activities within the department.

Admission Requirements:

  • Applicants should have the following qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in medicine from a recognized University, with an overall good GPA or more.
  • Has successfully completed the second phase of the Palestinian Board in surgery, or is a surgeon with at least seven years of practical experience.
  • Holds a valid medical license in Palestine.
  • Should be proficient in English.
  • Passing the selection examination.

Graduates areas of work:

Due to the presence of a severe lack of specialization in Vascular Surgery in the Gaza Strip, the graduates will have excellent opportunities:
  1. Surgery and Emergency departments in hospitals and other health centers.
  2. NGOs hospitals.
  3. Private clinics.

Program Structure:

The program consists of 3 semesters, 14 weeks per semester. The hours of study for each course are divided between theoretical and practical sections according to the following schedule:
  • Program requirements: 35 credit hours distributed over the three semesters.
  • 226 Class Hours.
  • 264 Practical Hours.
